Speed and Acceleration of Droplets Generated by Breaking Wind?Forced Waves

نویسندگان

چکیده

Laboratory measurements of droplet size, velocity, and accelerations generated by mechanically wind-forced water breaking waves are reported. The wind free stream velocity is up to 12 m/s, leading wave slopes from 0.15 0.35 at a fetch 23 m. ratio phase speed ranges 5.9 11.1, depending on the mechanical frequency. size distribution in all configurations can be represented two power laws, N(d) ? d?1 for drops 30 600 ?m d?4 above ?m. horizontal vertical velocities appear correlated, with slower more likely move upward. acceleration distributions found asymmetric, probability density functions (PDFs) being described normal-inverse-Gaussian distribution. PDF follow shape close one predicted small particles homogeneous isotropic turbulence, while follows an asymmetric normal shape, showing that both components controlled different physical processes.

A model of the sound generated by breaking waves

The sound produced from a single bubble, oscillating atits breathing mode frequency, and the bubble size distribution are used to model the sound produced by breaking waves. The data of Medwin and Daniel [$. Acoust. Soc. Am. 88, 408-412 ( 1990} ] is used to evaluate the performance ofthe model. The model generates a damped sinusoidal pulse for every bubble formed, as calculated from the bubble ...

On Heating of Solar Corona and Acceleration of Low-Speed Solar Wind by Acoustic Waves Generated in Corona

We investigate possibilities of solar coronal heating by acoustic waves generated not at the photosphere but in the corona, aiming at heating in the midto low-latitude corona where the low-speed wind is expected to come from. Acoustic waves of period τ ∼ 100s are triggered by chromospheric reconnection, one model of small scale magnetic reconnection events recently proposed by Sturrock. These w...

electron acceleration by Gravitational Waves

We investigate the non-linear interaction of a strong Gravitational Wave with the plasma during the collapse of a massive magnetized star to form a black hole, or during the merging of neutron star binaries (central engine). We found that under certain conditions this coupling may result in an efficient energy space diffusion of particles. We suggest that the atmosphere created around the centr...

Particle acceleration by electromagnetic waves.

We consider the symmetry in the interaction of photons and electrons, which has led to a common description of electron and photon accelerations; effects such as photon Landau damping arise naturally from such a treatment. Intense electromagnetic waves can act as a photon mirror to charged particles. The subsequent acceleration is equivalent to the photon pulse accelerating electrons. During th...

Simulation Studies of Electron Acceleration to Ultrarerativistic Energies Caused by Small Pulses Generated in Shock Waves

Electron acceleration caused by small pulses in shock waves is studied with relativistic particle simulations. The simulations show that a compressive small pulse generated in a shock wave can accelerate electrons to ultrarelativistic energies. If the external magnetic field is reversed across a neutral sheet, the shock wave creates a field-reversed small pulse, in addition to compressive ones,...
